"Everyone wanted to help Lewis. That's why he was thinking of running away."
In the short story, "A Likely Place," Lewis struggles with learning and social acceptance. More than anything he struggles with the way the grownups in his life treat him. It seems as if they don't understand him. This week students will answer the question: "How should grown ups treat kids?" They will cite places where grownups encourage and places where grownups discourage Lewis. They will discover how grownups helped and hurt Lewis through the way the addressed him. Finally they will make their own Kid President Video titled, "Dear Grownups." This will be based on "Dear Moms." Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ4Rnba85o8.
